Final Fantasy XIII-2 Has a Weak Debut in Japan

The sequel to FF XIII sold 1/3 the number of copies that XIII did.

Final Fantasy XIII is one of the most divisive games in the series, on both sides of the world. The game has one of the lowest Metacritic scores for a main entry in the RPG franchise, and the creation of the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII-2 is to address the complaints that stalwart fans had of the 2010 release. That sequel launched in Japan last week, and the sales look strong. That is, until you dig a little bit deeper.

New Corpse Party for PSP in 2012

Get ready for more Japanese terror, high school style.

Corpse Party was probably under your radar, but hopefully by now you’ve read our review and know a little bit more about this interesting horror/adventure game. However, you may not know that the Corpse Party just released in the U.S. by XSEED Games is actually a re-release of a game that came out for the PC in Japan. It was ported to the PSP, and already has a sequel, titled Corpse Party: Book of Shadows. You can add another entry to this series, as a new title, Corpse Party 2U (working title) has been shown in the Japanese magazine Dengeki PlayStation.

Nano Assault Review

This is what happens when the old and new collide.

Does anybody remember Body Wars at EPCOT?  It was one of those simulator rides that had the passengers shrunk down in order to enter a human body and carry out some kind of mission.  I honestly can’t remember what that mission was or even if it was successful, but I do remember how amazed I was as a young child, flying through a complete stranger’s cardiovascular system, red and white blood cells zooming by my head.  It was an awe inspiring experience that has stayed with me, perhaps through the nostalgic lenses of rose colored glasses, and it’s a memory tapped by Nano Assault on the 3DS.

Gears of War 3 Releasing Map Pack on January 17

Called "Fenix Rising," five new maps will be available.

Epic Games has been supporting Gears of War 3 with the Horde Command Pack, the RAAM's Shadow expansion, and the free Versus Booster Map Pack. Today, Microsoft confirmed the next bit of DLC will be a map pack called Fenix Rising.

Tekken 3D Prime Edition Gets a Release Date

Valentine's Day just got a little more crowded.

The Tekken franchise has a lot going on at the moment.  Tekken Hybrid was recently released and the popular fighting series finally gets to put up against rival Street Fighter series in Tekken X Street Fighter due out next year.  Perhaps lost in all this Tekken news is the development of Tekken 3D Prime Edition which is coming exclusively to the Nintendo 3DS and now has a release date.

Activision Announces the Beginning of the Call of Duty DLC “Season”

New content comes to Xbox 360 users first.

It’s already been proven that Activision's newest entry into the Call of Duty franchise does, in fact, print money, but the six million players who paid extra for “Elite” status have yet to see a return on their investment.

Associated Press Names Portal 2 Game of the Year

Runner Ups include Skyrim, Bastion and Deus Ex

The Associated Press has named its top 10 video games of 2011 and Glados would be pleased. Portal 2 has taken the gold medal being named the best game of 2011. Released in April, it surpassed other great titles such as The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Bug Fix Now Available

Almost as easy as catching a bug with a butterfly net.

We previously reported a game breaking bug in Link's newest adventure, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.  We can now report that a fix is available for download in the form of a Wii channel called the "Zelda Data Restoration Channel."

Cobalt Is In Alpha

Meet Cobalt, MineCraft’s crazy cousin.

Small independent Swedish game developer Oxeye released Cobalt last week, their new 2D action/shooter platformer. Currently the game is in Alpha, but Oxeye looks to mimic their partner Mojang’s (the makers of MineCraft) release method. Players who pre-order Cobalt in the alpha will be granted full access to the Beta and full version of the game as they become available.

Syndicate Banned in Australia

The ACB has refused to rate the reboot to the franchise.

Austrailia's Classification Board has a history of banning video games in its country. The Witcher 2, 50 Cent: Bulletproof and more recently, Mortal Kombat have all been denied entry down under. The new Syndicate reboot that was set to be released in February of 2012 can now be added to the list as it has been effectively banned by the ACB.
