At the end of my "vacation", I did the rounds of my west side game stores (I got two west, two east and one south - working on the north side) and filled a bunch of holes in my 360 collection and one for DS.
First stop was Just Press Play. I got six games for $50, the price of one new game way back in 2004.
The first four filled spots in my 360 top 10 I haven't had physically since the 2010s:
Bioshock Infinite
Gears of War 2
Mass Effect 2 and 3
Then one old favorite that's far down the critics list I couldn't resist:
Cabela's African Safari
I picked up this game circa 2012 when I was doing an achievement hunt and found a really fun game. And I'm not into hunting games at all. The closest I ever came to buying one was that Afrika game for PS3 which wasn't even hunting but photography on the African plains (that game is expensive now).
I don't know why this seems better than the other Cabela's hunting games. It was more of a budget title and feels less of an expansive simulation like the Adventures and Big Game Hunt series out at the time. I guess that means it has a simpler, more arcade style to it - just my sort of thing. Mk and I still quote from the guides who talk to you during this game too. There's some silly dialog.
And then one DS game I wanted to try that's highly rated:
Planet Puzzle League
Another day and another store, Complete in Box, where I filled two more in my top 10 for $12.
Oblivion
Gears of War
I'm excited to see all these boot up again on my 360 just like old times: 2006-12 that is.
