Future game developers, take note!

Apps! Apps! Apps! Best Buy and Hooked Media have launched an app development contest for the Android marketplace! The “Get Discovered!” contest is open to all game developers and, using Hooked Media's design platform, will be able to monitor the metrics and analytics of their game, should it make it to the marketplace. The contest is a great opportunity for developers of all sizes, as all apps will garner some form of promotion on the marketplace, with those receiving higher scores going further in the competition.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is BioWare/EA’s attempt to overthrow the current MMO giant, World of Warcraft. As a person with minimal exposure to MMOs I can honestly say that I would rather wield a lightsaber than a regular ole’ sword any day. That said, I decided to venture out to BioWare and Gamer Grub’s Best Buy Star Wars: The Old Republic release event in Union Square in Manhattan on a chilly Monday night. I went home loaded up with Star Wars goodies, PB & J Gamer Grub, and a scratchy throat.

There are World Warriors that have yet to step into that ring!

With the release of the free “Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition 2012” update out now, I’ve had the seminal fighting franchise on my mind. Every Christmas, I have a 100 match melee with my cousin to see who the greatest Street Fighter of the year is. It’s time to get back to training, but as my thumbs get back into fighting form a thought occurs to me: there are some characters that have yet to step up and throw down in the Street Fighter tournament. Who are these possible “New Challengers”, and what could they bring to the table that sets them apart from the already unique and diverse cast of characters?

It's time to return to The World...in Japan, at least.

Long-time RPG fans will probably remember the .hack series (pronounced “dot hack”). It was a fairly successful attempt at episodic gaming, with the first series spanning 4 interconnected games. It also spawned a couple of very popular anime series, and at one time an MMORPG was in development. However, the .hack series has been pretty dormant for quite some time. At least, until now; we’ve learned that a new CG film is in the works, and a new game, as well.
