Fusion: Genesis Review

This is the game that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs!

I feel sorry for Fusion Genesis. Right out of the gate, this game just has too much going against it. It has an unfortunate name that brings to my mind thoughts of mediocre Xbox launch games and inferior 16-bit consoles. It’s a digital release that not only had the misfortune of releasing during a season crammed with some of the biggest games in recent memory, but it comes in the wake of some truly stunning XBLA releases already, like Bastion and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. And beyond that, the best game I can compare it to (Armada on the Dreamcast) is a game that no one bought for a failed console from ten years ago. No, at first glance, Fusion Genesis is at a severe disadvantage. But look closer and you’ll find a pretty great XBLA game that deserves your attention.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Review

This is a nearly-perfect HD collection of two of the best games in the Metal Gear series. Oh, and Peace Walker is in there, too.

With HD collections of our favorite games of the past becoming a regular occurrence, we here at PixlBit have been trying to decide how best to cover them. When reviewing an HD remake, do we do a normal critique of the original game? Do we evaluate the quality of the HD conversion and special features? Or is the answer found with a little of column “A” and a little of column “B”? Well, I’m going to try a little experiment with this review of Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, and hopefully you wonderful readers will let us know if this format works well for you.

Reggie Says Mobile Gaming Goes Against What Nintendo Believes In

Also, he likes Skylanders. Who knew?

Reggie Fils-Aime has come a long way from his E3 2004 debut where he was all about “kickin’ ass and takin’ names”. The former VP of Sales and Marketing for Nintendo of America is now the President of Nintendo of America, and he has a lot to say about where the Big N is going, not only in terms of hardware and software, but on the digital front as well. In a recent interview, Reggie talked about the future of the 3DS, the upcoming release of the Wii U, and even took some time to discuss what he’s been playing.

Torchlight 2 Gets Delayed to 2012

You'll have to wait a little longer to get your loot on.

Torchlight came out in 2009 and took PC gamers by storm. It helped fill the void of loot-based dungeon crawlers that had been created in the wake of Diablo II crushing all competition for years. While Torchlight came out of a free-to-play side project created during the development of the ill-fated Hellgate: London and had a modest development cycle, Runic Games announced today that Torchlight 2 is a little more complicated. As such, the game isn’t going to make it for its projected 2011 release date.

EA Responds to Bans From the Origin Service

Watch what you type in the forums, lest you be unable to play your games.

We reported recently about the massive bans that EA has handed out to players caught using an in-game exploit on Battlefield 3. Now, we have a report that gamers that have been banned from the EA forums are also unable to play games that are linked to an EA account, such as anything played with Origin, EA’s Steam-like PC game client. Though EA claimed that the player banned in March who was unable to play Dragon Age 2 had been restricted from his game in error, the website Rock, Paper, Shotgun has found that games as recent as Battlefield 3 are unplayable to gamers found in violation of the forum terms of service.

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD is Complete and Coming to PS3

This and another Oddworld game coming to Vita, as well.

Lorne Lanning, founder of Oddworld Inhabitants attempted to create an ambitious, fully-realized universe with the Oddworld series. Spanning 4 games (the series was originally designed to be a five part series), the series garnered critical acclaim but tepid sales after the first release, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee. Lanning eventually shuttered Oddworld and left the video game industry, focusing instead on animated films. Now Lorne Lanning is back, and he has been working with developer Just Add Water on an HD remake of their final Oddworld game: Stranger’s Wrath for PS3.

Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors Coming to PSN

Could this be a sign of things to come?

Despite attracting the ire of fans lately with some dubious moves, Capcom has been on a roll when it comes to the fighting game department. Hot on the heels of three iterations of Street Fighter IV came two versions of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (in one year, no less!), and producer Yoshinori Ono is putting the finishing touches on Street Fighter x Tekken for a release early next year. Yes, most of the major Capcom fighting franchises of yore are pretty well represented in the modern gaming landscape. Darkstalkers is one of those series that has fallen by the wayside, but later this month PlayStation 3 owners will be able to get their hands on the classic monster fighter.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Preview

How Skyward Sword is getting even the most jaded Zelda players excited again.

When it comes to franchise fatigue, the first game that springs to mind is the Legend of Zelda series. Sure, we don’t get a new adventure starring Link every year like, say, Assassin’s Creed or Call of Duty, but I’ve been controlling a mute, green tunic-wearing elf since 1987. I played pretty much every major release in the series until Wind Waker, and I’m just tired of the formula. I don’t think it’s controversial to say that anymore, either; more and more, I hear criticisms of repetition and stale gameplay leveled at the Zelda games. With that being said, you can understand why I was perfectly fine with ignoring the upcoming Skyward Sword and moving on with my life. And yet, somehow I found myself pre-ordering the Limited Edition of the game last week. How did that happen?
