Square Enix Says to Expect More Deus Ex

The popular cyberpunk RPG is just one of many core franchises for the company.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution came out earlier this year to glowing reviews and strong sales, selling over 2 million units worldwide in its first month. It’s no wonder, then, that Deus Ex has positioned itself as one of Square Enix’s major franchises for the future. In a financial conference call, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada stated that Deus Ex has become a core intellectual property for the company, and that the franchise will see another release.

3DS Surpasses the First Year Sales of the DS

Nintendo's divisive new handheld only needed 8 months to beat the DS.

The 3DS roller coaster continues today. The system, which had so much positive buzz coming out of E3 2010, released to a collective “meh” from the industry at large, due to a tepid launch lineup and a general waning of interest in 3D. In a shocking move, Nintendo slashed the price of the 3DS down to 169.99 from its original price point of 249.99, and Nintendo President of Japan Satoru Iwata took a 50% pay cut from the debacle. However, it seems to have worked, because we’ve just learned that the 3DS has surpassed the first year sales of the DS, and in only 8 months.

Final Fantasy Type-O Getting a U.S. Release?

The director says his team is working on an overseas version, but will it come out on PSP?

While it’s true that the PSP market in the West has been going downhill for a couple of years now, Square Enix has continued to support the handheld, releasing most of the major PSP titles in America this year, including Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling Together and The Third Birthday. It was puzzling, then, when SE announced that they would not be localizing Final Fantasy Type-0. It looks like the company may have had a change of heart, however, as new details have emerged regarding an English localization for the game.

Capcom has been known to go back to the well over and over when it comes to their fighting game franchises, and that hasn’t changed for the current generation. Rumor: Dante's Inferno 2 in the Works?

Former Assassin's Creed 2 writer possibly continuing the virtual Divine Comedy.

As we get to the end of 2011 and start our Game of the Year Deliberations, the industry at large is starting to peek into the future. We can expect plenty of big games, be they remakes, new IPs, or sequels. One of those sequels could very well be part two of the Divine Comedy. That is, a sequel to the 2009 release of Dante’s Inferno by Visceral Games.

Ridge Racer Vita Has a DLC Plan

Namco Bandai adopts a...unique "pay as you go" structure.

It wouldn’t be a Sony system launch without a Ridge Racer game, and the PS Vita will be no different. The Namco Bandai racing series is a staple for the PlayStation brand, but the Ridge Racer game that’s launching with the Vita has a couple odd caveats that accompany it.

Police raid shops as Iranian youths decry EA.

It is common for video games to be banned in different parts of the world for a variety of reasons, from violent content to a conflict with cultural mores. inFAMOUS 2 Review

I don't know what's more shocking: Cole's powers or the fact that he still hangs out with Zeke.

With the production costs of video games increasing by leaps and bounds as the years go on, platform-exclusive titles are going the way of the dinosaur. Somehow though, Sony has managed to recover from the rocky start of the PlayStation 3 and has secured some really great exclusive games. Developer Sucker Punch is responsible for one of those all-new PS3 IPs, with the inFAMOUS games. While they saw some success with Sly Cooper on the PS2, that franchise never quite “popped” like Ratchet & Clank and the Jak games. It looks like inFAMOUS was just what the upstart developer needed to make it to that next level, and the sequel to the 2009 debut cements the series as one of the best exclusives on the PS3.

PS3 Owners Getting Battlefield 1943 After All

EA has no desire to get lawyer'd.

It is wise to keep your promises, especially when it comes to platform-exclusive perks, and EA is learning this the hard way. We reported earlier how EA had promised PlayStation 3 purchasers of Battlefield 3 would get a download code for a free copy of the 2009 digital release of Battlefield 1943. When it didn’t materialize, PS3 owners were not pleased, to say the least. A class-action lawsuit was filed against EA, but before you can say “holy litigation, Batman!” EA has made good on their E3 2011 promise.
