Treasures of the Sun Review

A four-star piece of content for a three-star game.

Treasures of the Sun DLC integrates seamlessly with the main quest of Dungeon Siege III. If you’re starting a new game, the quest becomes available after opening up the Causeway for the first time. If you already completed the game, you’ll notice an auto save that takes you back just before setting forth on the final leg of the game. From this file, you can jump into the new content. People you talk to are aware of Jeyne Cassynder and her plans for domination, and the entire section feels like it belongs in Dungeon Siege III in both narrative and gameplay.

Dungeon Siege III Review

It's all about the co-op, baby!

Remember couch co-op? There was something special about having a buddy over, ordering a pizza, and flopping on the couch to marathon through a great game. That intimate kind of cooperative game play has kind of fallen by the wayside in recent years, thanks to the proliferation of stable online matchmaking. As remarkable an achievement as that is, nothing will replace the fun and energy of having a partner sitting right next to you as you triumph over a challenging game. The folks over at Obsidian haven’t forgotten about couch co-op; it’s the focal point for Dungeon Siege III, a game that is at its best when shared.

Resident Evil: Revelations Priced at $39.99

Capcom backpedals on the notion of releasing a $50 dollar portable game on 3DS.

Capcom has been a company rife with controversy in the past year. Between cancelling a major Mega Man title, releasing an update to Marvel vs. Capcom 3 a mere 8 months after launch, and not allowing gamers to delete save data on Resident Evil: Mercenaries, the Japanese developer has gained some ill will from players. At least one of those sticking points for consumers has been settled, at least in the U.S. that is. The upcoming Resident Evil: Revelations is now set to be priced the same as most 3DS titles.

Kingdoms of Amalur Includes Day One DLC in the Box

A nice freebee, or insidious anti-used marketing tactics? You decide.

Online passes are a touchy subject in the realm of gaming. Initially explained as a way to defer costs of running and maintaining servers and community for online multiplayer focused games, the pass has become something else entirely. Batman: Arkham City hid away the much-publicized Catwoman missions behind an online pass, and it seems like Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is going the same route. Or is it?

THQ Lays Off 75 Employees

A shift to focus on "core games" leads to a restructuring.

It’s been bad news for THQ lately. The company had to close Kaos Studios after underwhelming sales of new IP Homefront, and completely shuttered the Red Faction franchise after Armageddon failed to take off. Rumors have surrounded the company in recent weeks, with the most alarming reports suggesting that the company would be cancelling all of their 2014 releases, which was later debunked. The company has announced its exit from the children’s game market, instead focusing on core gamers. But we’ve learned that the company has just let go of 75 workers as of today.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Primer

Let PixlBit get you up to speed on all things Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2!

Final Fantasy is one of the most celebrated series in video game history. It spans 14 epic games across five console generations and is loved by fans around the world. But the funny thing about Final Fantasy is the fact that each adventure takes place in a completely different world with new lands to explore, party members to meet and villains to defeat. The only time a Final Fantasy game has continued its story was with the spinoff of FF X, which was given the awkward-but-accurate name of Final Fantasy X-2. That changes now, with the divisive Final Fantasy XIII getting a direct sequel on January 31.

Final Fantasy Turns 25

Feeling old yet?

2012 is going to see the onset of a ton of 25th anniversaries, as the NES went into full swing in the U.S. in 1987. Some of those anniversaries may not exactly reflect the release dates that we recognize, as certain games came out earlier. Case in point: Final Fantasy. Even though we didn’t get this epic RPG until 1990, the game debuted in Japan in December of 1987. Not a company to ignore such a major anniversary, Square Enix is celebrating in style, with a special piece of artwork that is set to appear before major titles this year.

Diablo III Producer Leaves Blizzard

The senior producer on the project leaves in the wake of sweeping changes.

Diablo III should be entering the final stretch. It’s been rated in Korea, and there’s only a couple months left for the game to really qualify for that “early 2012” release window. With that being said, there have been some interesting new developments in the saga of Blizzard’s hotly anticipated action/RPG.
