Diablo III Hands On Preview

Blizzard made some changes to Diablo III, but do they make a big difference to the gameplay?

I typically don’t like replaying sections of a game that I haven’t finished and yet I’ve played through the first act of Diablo III somewhere to the tune of ten times. That’s a ringing endorsement of how fun and addicting this game is and I’ve been ready to play the real thing for months now. But Blizzard has other plans in mind, having recently made some sweeping changes to the way stats affect character progression, among other things. With that in mind, I decided to roll a new Barbarian and take a look at these alterations to Blizzard’s long-gesticulating RPG.

Alan Wake's American Nightmare Review

Submitted for your approval: the story of a man fighting against the darkness.

American Nightmare is a smaller, more action focused entry in the series. The backdrop for Wake’s new tale is far removed from Cauldron Lake in the first game, and instead moves into the desert of Arizona. Wake is on the trail of Mr. Scratch, the darkness-created doppleganger featured in the two DLC episodes for Alan Wake: The Signal and The Writer.

MIA - The Lost Vikings

Wait...Blizzard made games besides WoW, Diablo, and StarCraft?

When talking about Blizzard Entertainment, it’s almost impossible to imagine the company before the creation of their core pillars of Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo. It’s even more difficult to think of the company making games for home consoles, but in the early 90s both of these unimaginable things were true. Under the original company name of Silicon & Synapse, the house that would be Blizzard produced The Lost Vikings—a beloved side-scrolling puzzle game that fell by the wayside for juggernauts like Warcraft.  We have some love for those quirky Vikings around here, so it was high time for them to get their very own MIA.

Ridge Racer Unbounded Delayed at the Zero Hour

Namco's new racer was supposed to launch next to Mass Effect 3.

We hear about game delays all the time, but it’s rare for a game to get pushed when it’s so close to release. That’s the case for the upcoming Namco Bandai racing game Ridge Racer Unbounded. The game was actually slated for release this week, up against Mass Effect 3 and Street Fighter x Tekken. But this isn’t simply a matter of getting out of the way of two highly anticipated games; Unbounded is now TBA 2012.

Mass Effect Review Rewind

The epic tale of Commander Shepard begins here!

Mass Effect was a watershed moment for developer, BioWare. It was the game that solidified their presence on consoles, building on the success of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire. It was also their first truly smash-hit original IP thanks to its publishing deal with Microsoft Studios. Five years later, and on the eve of the conclusion of the “Commander Shepard Trilogy”, how does the original Mass Effect hold up?

Dead or Alive 5 Getting a Visit From Virtua Fighter

Akira joins the cast of the next DoA.

The new hotness in fighting games has to be the guest character. This is nothing new, but in recent years it has become a major feature of the fighting game. We famously had Star Wars invade SoulCalibur, Freddy Krueger pull the Mortal Kombat cast into his boiler room, and this week sees Street Fighter x Tekken release with a plethora of guest characters, most of which will be PlayStation exclusive. Not to be outdone, Tecmo is jumping into the fray for Dead or Alive 5, but the first guest announced is probably the last thing anyone would guess.

New Fable XBLA Game Announced

Fable Heroes is set to be a companion to the upcoming Kinect game.

It’s been some time since we’ve heard from the Fable franchise. Little has been shown of Fable: The Journey since its debut at E3 last summer, and Lionhead Studios has yet to talk about a possible fourth entry in the action RPG series. That’s not to say that nothing new is coming out of Albion, however; we’ve learned that a new Fable spinoff is in the works.

Asura’s Wrath Review

Is an interactive anime right for you? Please sit down; Doctor Julian will be seeing you shortly.

Every now and again a game will come along that defies classification. Such is the case with Asura’s Wrath, a mysterious game from CyberConnect2 and Capcom. Announced with little fanfare and even less information, Asura’s Wrath has been a difficult game to peg. Is it an action game? Is it a simple beat-'em-up, ala Final Fight? Is it a modern day Dragon’s Lair? Well, before I can answer those questions, I will need to perform a full physical of your gaming and anime tastes; please drop your pants. No? Well, you’ll need to at least fill out this questionnaire.
