PS Vita Sells 1.8 Million Units

New software is key to the success of the system, says Kaz Hirai.

The PS Vita has been in stores for some time now, and its sales have been a source of discussion throughout the industry. With the Nintendo 3DS having a slow start last year and needing a price drop to spur sales, speculation about the potential of the Vita has run rampant.

Pre Order Hitman: Absolution and Get an Exclusive New Game Mode

The highest scorer will win a trip to Denmark.

If you’re heading into a Gamestop on May 15 to purchase Diablo III or Max Payne 3 (or Game of Thrones-we won’t judge), you may want to slap a pre order down on Hitman: Absolution. Why, you may ask? Besides the fact that it’s the first entry in the popular stealth action series since 2006, Square Enix has put together a rather unprecedented pre order bonus that’s—you guessed it—exclusive to Gamestop.

LEGO Lord of the Rings is Real

Fact: Minifig dwarves are very dangerous over short distances.

We reported late last year about a new line of LEGO toys featuring the Lord of the Rings license. A series of games from the now-synonymous-with-LEGO developer Traveller’s Tales seemed like a no-brainer, and now it looks like our original assumption was true.

PixlTalk Episode 66: Dogma

We may be going to hell, but we're taking you with us!

It's time for another Tri-Force edition of PixlTalk! This week, we read your questions, spend some time talking about The Avengers, Call of Duty Black Ops 2, and Diablo III. Then, we head into the tabernacle and discuss the Holy of Holies. Well, not exactly, but we do talk about religion, gaming, and personal beliefs and mantras that we go to when we play video games.

Dragon's Dogma Hands On Preview

This is a game you will probably want to pay attention to.

Capcom has been quite the news grabber lately, and it has been mostly negative news over the past year and a half or so. Whatever your feelings for the prolific Japanese developer/publisher, it can’t be denied that Capcom has been one of the most aggressive leaders in establishing new IPs this generation. While that has given us everything from very popular properties like Dead Rising to failures like Dark Void and games that can’t quite be defined like Asura’s Wrath, new and untested games seem to come out of the House of Mega Man at least a couple times a year. Enter Dragon’s Dogma, a game that hopes to bridge the gap between Japanese and Western development sensibilities.

Akai Katana is the Next Cave Shooter to Invade

Max Payne has bullet time, and Diablo III has hell, but Akai Katana has bullet hell!

Who says the shoot ‘em up is dead? It seems like anytime someone proclaims the genre to be six feet under, another game pops out of the woodwork. Recent notable releases have included games like Deathsmiles and the XBLA game from Grasshopper Manufacture, Sine Mora. Next week will see the release of yet another shooter, from the highly regarded studio Cave. This title, a disc release for the Xbox 360, is an industrial age title set in Japan called Akai Katana.

Two New Family Guy Games Are on the Way

Giggity.

While Family Guy has tried to take the mantle of most popular animated sitcom from The Simpsons, it has a long way to go to reach the levels of video game releases that Fox’s First Family has achieved. After the critical failure of the 2006 PS2 and Xbox game and the cancellation of a 360/PS3 sequel, there’s been little talk of another digital outing for The Griffins. That has changed with the announcement of Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse.

PixlTalk Episode 64: 88 MPH

The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades!

It's time for another installment of PixlTalk! Julian wrote a blog series about the future of video games, and that's the impetus for this discussion by the Tri-Force crew. Before that, we take some listener questions, talk some games we've been playing, what would be a good entry-level horror movie, and adventures in indie game store shopping.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is Confirmed Dead

GSC Gameworld is no more, but a new project rises from the ashes.

We reported late last year that GSC Gameworld, the developer of the popular shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was closing its doors, and production on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was ended. Then about a month later there was word that things were going well, and the team was back to work on the game. Well, it is now official: GSC Gameworld is dead, as well as the game called S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. It’s not all bad news, however, as the people that comprised the core team have started a new studio.
