Dead Space 3 to be Announced at E3

Severed necromorph is a dish best served cold.

We reported some time ago about the existence of Dead Space 3, and recently we found out that the game is due out sometime in 2013. In fact, it seems as if everyone in the video game industry has found dirt on Dead Space 3, but EA has been oddly mum on the subject. Enter the Electronic Entertainment Expo: bastion of all things exciting and upcoming in video games, where EA is set to finally reveal their poorly kept secret. That’s right, kiddos—Isaac Clarke is coming back, and next week we’ll have the first real look at this hotly anticipated horror game.

Torchlight 2 Preview

We don't like to use the "D" word around these parts.

With Diablo III exploding onto the world and making headlines for everything from its high sales numbers to its controversial internet connection requirements, it seems as if Blizzard’s new monster is set to dominate the gaming landscape for some time to come. If you’ve read my review you know that I’m rather fond of that game. Perhaps you’re still not impressed. Perhaps you yearn for a game less streamlined that plays more like the Diablo of yore. That’s the exact sentiment that Runic Games is banking on with Torchlight II--a love letter to Diablo II in a post-Diablo III world. But let’s just not talk about Diablo for now, shall we?

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Preview

Now all we need is a little energon, and a lot of luck.

In a world where so many licensed properties are turned into video games to coincide with a movie release date for a quick buck and low expectations, it’s rare to see an IP leveraged for all it’s worth. That was the case with 2010’s Transformers: War for Cybertron.  The third person shooter wasn’t tied to any current movie, cartoon, or toy line, which gave developer High Moon Studios the freedom and time to create a high quality game set in the expansive Transformers universe. It stood out, and did for the Transformers what Arkham Asylum did for Batman. High Moon is at it again, and this time the war has become much more urgent. The battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons has taken its toll, and soon Cybertron will fall.

Diablo III Review

Crazy clicking creates copious cases of carpal tunnel.

Click. Click. Click. It’s hard to believe that a game that’s entirely based around mouse clicking can be as entertaining, addictive, and all-consuming as Diablo III is. Blizzard took twelve years to deliver the third release of their dungeon-exploring, monster-slaying, loot-hoarding series, and it was entirely possible that this game wouldn’t deliver on over a decade of anticipation. I’m here to tell you that Blizzard did indeed deliver and as soon as I’m done telling you exactly how amazing this game is you can count on me going back in for more clicking, carnage, and loot. Often imitated but never duplicated, Blizzard has given a powerful reminder of who the king of the click really is.

Diablo III is The Fastest Selling PC Game in History

Loot, loot and more loot!

Saying Diablo III one of the most highly anticipated games of the year would be accurate but calling it the fastest selling PC game ever would be irrefutable. The sequel--12 years in the making--has sold a record breaking 6.3 million copies in the week since its launch, with 3.5 million copies being sold in the first 24 hours alone.

Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown Coming Soon

Take the fight online on PSN and XBLA in June.

Remember Virtua Fighter 5? The game came out just a little too early to capitalize on the new fighting game boom that Street Fighter IV kicked off. Sega’s highly technical fighter had a lot of positive buzz among critics but never quite found an audience at release, with the PS3 version famously lacking in online play. Flash forward a few years and Sega is ready to take another stab at the game in a different format. Virtua Fighter 5 is coming to PSN and XBLA with some new features, and it’s coming soon.

Avernum: Escape the Pit Review

Bear witness to my journal of failure!

Avernum: Escape the Pit is in love with the '90s. In fact, it’s so in love with the '90s that every copy of the game should come with a flannel shirt, a can of Crystal Pepsi, and Nevermind on CD. Spiderweb Software has created a new game that feels old, not unlike what Capcom did with Mega Man 9 and 10. To gamers that cut their teeth on games like Ultima and Baldur’s Gate this is fantastic news, as games like this simply don’t get made very often anymore. For gamers such as me who were weaned on consoles and people under the age of 30, this game is a total head scratcher.

Tomb Raider Slips Into Next Year

2013 is looking better and better, but will we have any big games left this year?

Last year’s E3 had some impressive titles that got fans excited for the 2012 gaming landscape. Of course, any year in the gaming industry wouldn’t be complete without a few high-profile delays. We already learned a couple weeks ago that BioShock Infinite would be slipping into 2013, and now you can add Tomb Raider to that growing list.
