Can I get an AMEN for the Witcher 3 OST!

Posted on 05/31/2015 at 01:36 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Well I certainly can't think of another game that I can compare this to. It really stands on it's own. I'm reading through the first novel again, it is pretty fucking dark and depressing and playing through the Baron quests, it really captures the feel of the book for me which is pretty remarkable. The game just gives so much, and then it gives and gives and gives you more. I'm about half your level, so probably a quarter of the way through. I really don't want to rush through the game and be done with it. I'm just playing through quests on weekends like an MMO and I'm making it last until another great game comes along. I really want to get back to Pillars of Eternity, which honestly is on the level of GOY like Witcher, but witcher is so darned good.

It's just really well made. It plays a bit like Shadow of Mordor but with Batman combat. The side quests are all interesting and you don't go on lame fetch quests where you get x amount of something to complete. They usually string together and are very involving. It's pretty to look at and just ride around in with your horse, and the main story is very dark and just depressing as fuck, in the beginning so far. I've only reached like level 10 and been spending most of my time doing quests and contracts in the No Man's Land, or the first large open are of the game. I will put more hours in this weekend. It's really super good.

On Leaving Plus 10 Damage and Other Tangential Nonsense

As a frequent user and visitor to the site, I endorse @whatsacow's candidacy 100%. Other sites are just way too P.C. nice and vanilla. I think @whatsacow can bring a little edge to pixlbit like the olden game journo days. Plus10damage lost a great asset honestly. Cool

So Witcher 3, who's playing it and what do y'all think, plus other things?

I recently finished up a playthrough of the second game so I was prepared for this release. I think the 3rd game stands on it's own, but if you need to fill the gaps, 2 is quite awesome.

Ewww Neptunia! Why you so pervy?

Curious to see your thoughts on it.

Yeah, I need to work backwards and play all the games. I'm glad they are being released on PC now. I feel like the VITA games are far more streamlined from what I've read about the first games.

I think you and I have a similar feeling about open worlds, in that we prefer a more directed experience. I would probably have to play with a game guide in order to maximize the experience with something like Fallout, but I think that would defeat the purpose of a sanbox design, which is basically do what you want at your own pace and wander and get lost.

My issue is mainly with empty content. Witcher 2 had large enough areas to hunt in, but not so enormous that it became a chore, but large enough that a lot of people skipped side quests and just went on the critical path, either way the main story was great, and if you like exploring, the world was big enough to explore-- a nice balance.

I played Morrowind recently. I know it's not fair to judge it now because I'm sure at the time it was amazing due to it's size, and I was impressed by the detail of the world and the giant tick alien transport thingy or whatever,  but I was immediately lost also.

As for MMOs, they are not empty. They fill the area with repetative combat, but there is alwyas something to do in them. I can't say that about all Sandbox or Open World games that require you to go out and make your fun.

I like a balance I suppose, as you say. It doesn't work for every game.

I'm planning to get back into GW2 when the expansion hits and making it my main MMO, since I'm a poor bastard right now and can't buy Elder Scrolls.

Also, I've been playing Heroes of the Storm and Marvel Heroes, which are both pretty fun honestly.

Did they actually tell you that you sucked? I thought your articles were entertaining. I honestly never read anyone elses except yours and Joe's on there. I gave destructoid a chance, but the asshole ratio was quite high, and I'm not ever typing another fucking word there again.

You do have a lot of shit stirring in your life for such a young age. I think your mind is just trying to parse it all and figure out what to do without going fully mental. I've noticed that you post a lot heavy metal or else comedy bits, like you're either trying to drown out the bullshit or else find humor in fucked up situations.

I always gravitated towards the dark side of things anyway. Not that I'm a psychopath or anything, but I just don't care about things enough to be angry or happy either way, which might be worse.

You really should have a featured column somewhere online. So many untalented bastards in the gaming journo world.  I'll always make time to write and comment. Cool

I'm Back, sort of.

I've got a Magic Deck sitting around some where. Hard to find other people to play with though, as it seems pretty niche and probably requires an entry point at an early age. The video game variant is quite accessible and just as good I think.

I only played Invisible Inc. for a bit before playing Darkest Dungeon which took up more of my time and now also Witcher 3. I'm trying to get through Witcher 3 so I can get back into Pillars of Eternity, which I feel is a strong GOTY contender as well. I love old new games.

Other than that, you haven't missed much in the way of gaming news, so you picked the right time to get off the gaming hamster wheel.

I've also only dabbled with the Pathfinder board game, but again, hard to find other board game fans in short notice.
