Revisitations: Dante's Inferno

Posted on 11/03/2015 at 09:10 AM | Filed Under Blogs

Back in the day, I was signed up with Playstation and they'd send me free demos and swag sometimes and I got a demo disc of the original God of War. I didn't care for it all that much, so when I hear "God of War clone", I usually avoid like the plague. That said, I've never looked down on any game for being a "clone". Just because something happens to be in the same sort of style doesn't mean it's bad or even unoriginal.

Some musings on RPGs, CRPGs, and Genre Distinction (Part 1?)

Posted on 11/03/2015 at 09:00 AM | Filed Under Blogs

In my opinion, genre is kind of a made-up construct, be it movies, games, music, or books. As for RPGs being more sophisticated than action games, well that's a crock. Did someone actually say that? I play games because they're fun. Sometimes I have more fun playing something more story-driven, sometimes I just want to blow shit up. Depends on my mood and the kind of day I've had.

I think the only two I haven't played that I own are Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Destiny.

I don't remember! I have a hard time remembering what I had for lunch yesterday! Lots. You can play them at kongregate.com, and there's a search box you can use to find them.

They're flash games available on kongregate. Maybe there are only two available on iPad? I dunno.

I love the Snail Bob games! I've played most of them through the kongregate website.

What is Your Most Arresting Gaming Experience of the Past Five Years?

Journey, for obvious reasons. And watching my nephew (who is really into FPS games) play through it, and then sitting back after he was done and just saying "whoa!" and sitting in silence for a few minutes.

Flower. The game play, visuals, and music all helped me tremendously when I was having mental health issues caused by a previous job.

I think my favorite is Symphonia, closely followed by Xillia. Cary's is Legendia. Can't speak for anyone else, though.

Yeah, I really only had the one day with the game so far. Work, housecleaning, getting ready for my trip, and my trip kind of took up all my free time for the last week. Hoping to get back to it soon.

I've played Legendia (PS2), Symphonia (GC), Graces, Xillia, and Xillia 2 (all PS3). Other than the two Xillia games, none of them are really related to each other. As for combat, yes, moving the left stick while pressing X or O will give you different moves. A lot of the combat is explained in the Library section of the menu screen. You can  (or at least previous games allowed you to) map certain attacks to different buttons. I haven't really explored that too closely yet, but I probably should... As for where I am in the game, I just woke up at the inn after becoming the Shepherd.
