BaD day 6: stream of consciousness

Posted on 02/07/2016 at 02:04 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I remember You Can't Do That on Television.  A lot of Nickelodeon staples started out with that show (like green slime).  It probably wasn't a very good show, but I watched it a lot as a kid because I didn't know any better.

The Phoenix DLC is great!

Retro Review: Marvel Vs. Capcom 2

Posted on 02/06/2016 at 04:06 PM | Filed Under Blogs

This was probably one of the most played games on my Dreamcast.  My favorite team was Mega Man, Tron Bonne, and Cammy.  I also liked Jill Sandwich, Roll, and the Servebot.  I stunk at the game, but I enjoyed it anyway. Most of my limited knowledge of Marvel characters comes from this game and the LEGO titles.  On the Marvel side, I liked the purple lady who shot out pink bubble gum things.  I don't remember her name.

BaD Six: Yo-Kai Watch Demo

I have this game.  It's an all right game, it's like playing a cartoon.  Which makes sense, since there is a Yo-Kai Watch cartoon you can watch on Disney XD.  Only thing I don't like about the game is the lack of control in battles, but I've played it longer than I thought I would, so it's still pretty decent.

Both the Yo-Kai Watch game and cartoon owe everything to Fujiko Fujio (pen name), the folks who created popular manga and cartoons like Doraemon and Q-taro.  Look them up if you're curious and you'll see the similarities between them and Yo-Kai Watch.

Most of the stuff on your list is also on mine, except I'll probably skip out on 3DS Hyrule Legends and Bravely Second.  You can check out my full list here:

Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow Review

Posted on 02/05/2016 at 10:12 PM | Filed Under Review

I first read about Pokemon about a year before it came out in an issue of Nintendo Power.  They had an article about games that had just came out in Japan, and they mentioned briefly a game where you could trade and battle monsters via a link cable called Pocket Monsters.  I didn't pay much attention to it at the time, but a year or so later when I went to E3, they were showing Pokemon at Nintendo's booth (with the temporarly catch phrase "Catch 'em if You Can!").  I saw how they were going to heavily market Pokemon in the US and I knew it was going to be big.  When I got back, I immediately requested to my editor at The Dallas Morning News that I should cover everything Pokemon related.  He said, "Yeah, sure, whatever," not knowing how big it was going to be.  Well, when Pokemon did come out, I was writing Pokemon articles left and right, and got paid a pretty good amount of money for it.  I like to say that Pokemon helped pay my way through college.  I reviewed the blue version, by the way.

Nowadays I don't play many of the main Pokemon games because they're not much different than the first one, which I OD'ed on.  But while I wish they would be different, a new generation of kids can enjoy each entry and it's new to them, and why fix what isn't broken, so I don't complain about it too much.

You know what you should review?  Pokemon Channel!  I loved that game for some reason!  --Cary

Mario Spin-off Games #5--Mario Paint

Posted on 02/05/2016 at 01:43 PM | Filed Under Blogs

Even though this was basically Kid Pix, I loved this game back then.  It was really one of Nintendo's first quirky releases in the US.  I even used Mario Paint to do school projects!  Did you know that Super Mario Maker was orignally going to be another Mario Paint program?  Also, Wario Ware: D.i.Y. uses similar Mario Paint tools.

BaD 5: Some interesting news

Posted on 02/05/2016 at 01:40 PM | Filed Under Blogs

With the popularity of Undertale, it wouldn't surprise me if this happens.  I'll probably get it just to have it and try it, but I'm probably the only person in the world who's not a big fan of Earthbound.  Battles are archaic and the story is so nonsensical that it's hard to know what to do next.  When the game was originally released on the SNES, it came with a strategy guide for a reason.

One of my favorite anime intros from a game is Namco X Capcom.  I won't post a link to it here, but if you're interested, you can look it up.

Fight a Day 4: Losing Armor With Fighting Vipers

Posted on 02/05/2016 at 01:37 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I've heard of Fighting Vipers, but I don't think I've ever played it.  So you'll have to tell me if there are any characters you think I'd like.  Aside from Soul Calibur, I'm not too big on 3-D fighters anyway.
