Pixlbit Questionare: Nintendo 64 Edition

Posted on 09/27/2016 at 07:19 PM | Filed Under Blogs

My favorite N64 game is either Ocarina or Majora's Mask. Not that big on the system or this gen overall because a lot of games have aged very poorly, but the Zelda games were so far ahead that even though they aged so much they're still great. Also enjoyed the Banjo games, Star Fox 64, and Paper Mario.

I think each is fun in their own way, but Ema wasn't as good in Apollo Justice. She's much better in Spirit of Justice

What's In Your Systems?

XB1- ReCore

PS4-Dragonball Z season 4 (that thing is mostly a Blu-Ray player now for me)

Wii U- Pokken Tournament

3DS- DKC Returns-Which is mostly ignored for Ace Attorney 6 and SNES games

Vita- I'm pretty sure FFX is still in there. I really should get back to that game.

I think it's a nice touch that in the beginning of the first Ace Attorney, Gumshoe won't help you with anything, but he's a lot more helpful when you defend Edgeworth and will usually be around to lend you a hand. Nice bit of character development there. Wish he could have been in the new one, though I still won't complain when it means Ema's back.

Captain N's 15 Favorite Gamecube games

My favorites are Zelda: Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, and Resident Evil 4. Gamecube was a perfect console to be late to the party to IMO. Some really incredible games on the thing, but not a lot of steady releases at the time. Still, probably my second favorite Nintendo console.

Episode 96: PlayStation Pub Crawl

So glad you started off your music with the best PS1 franchise. Crash Bandicoot is about a third of my total PS1 playtime and 3/4 of it when I was a kid. I've found other games like Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania SotN which I loved, but the console just never clicked for me like it did with so many others. A lot of games like Resident Evil and any Final Fantasy on the console feel like games you had to play at the time to really appreciate.

I'm just going to give two game for Stage Select, but it's an idea I really want to see someone do: The Legend of Zelda meets Sly Cooper. Replace dungeons with heist jobs and have you get all the items fairly early. You then roam around an overworld gaining intel on the heist job until you feel you have enough to start the plan.

From there, it will limit how many items you bring and force you to use the intel to pick the correct items. You'll use the items to disable security systems and sneak past guards to get the treasure. Have it based around a mix of stealth and puzzle solving, forcing you to improvise if you didn't bring the correct items, which will cause you to get less money at the end of the heist at best if this happens.

The other is something you'll only like if you like sports: A beat em up where your character wears your favorite team's gear or you play as any of their players. You then pick whatever teams you want to be the enemies and spend the whole game beating up their fans with the mascots and players as bosses. So if Angelo played this he'd be in Yankee gear beating up a bunch of Red Sox fans. Would be a hit and work with just about any sport.

So I Beat Dragon Age Inquisition*Sorta*

Loved Inquisition, was my favorite of the three Dragon Age games. Never checked out the DLC though, should probably get to that sometime.

Final Fantasy XV: I Want to Believe

I'm iffy on this game. I've never been a FF fan even though I've wanted to like many of them and think there's a couple unplayed ones I could enjoy. My issue is that it seems shallow. Combat looks flashy, but I'm having a hard time seeing enough depth to it. The world looks huge, but I'm unsure whether exploring it will be fun or if the game will feel padded. I may check it out if reviews point to it being the real deal, but I think I'm skipping it for now.

From Game Boy to DS: Nintendo Loves to Keep Us Entertained

Posted on 09/04/2016 at 01:23 PM | Filed Under Feature

I started my gaming on Nintendo handhelds, remember when I was seven my cousin gave me his old Gameboy with Wario Land 3. I ended up loving the thing, as I got Pokemon pretty soon after, then was introduced to Zelda and the Donkey Kong remake later, all of which are some of my all time favorite games. Upgraded to the GBC and GBA later also, the latter which introduced me to Metroid and finally let me have my own copy of Super Mario World.

I was actually the opposite when the DS came out though, I thought the thing was lame and the PSP would crush it. But then I saw an EGM issue covering E3 in 2005 and noticed that the DS games looked much more interesting than the PSP ones. The second I played Kirby Canvas Curse I knew I made the right choice. From there on, games like Castlevania, Elite Beat Agents, and all those Pokemon games made it my favorite handheld.

When I got a 3DS later I gave my cousin my old DS and my copy of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. It was my way of saying thank you for all those years ago.
