August 2013 Recap

I know there are a few here on Pixlbit. I was kind of hoping they'd come out with their pitchforks but so far no dice. But yeah, what's not to love? When we were kids, wasn't that the most annoying thing, having to wait for your turn while playing "multiplayer" on Mario?

That's the cool thing about thrift stores, you never know what you'll find. It's worth a look Smile

Yardsales and thrift stores can be great ways to find old game (and sometimes newer ones!). You just gotta be patient and check frequently. Goodwill doesn't normally have any games worth buying but you never know. Last year my wife picked up Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing, and Super Mario Sunshine for $3 apiece in one visit. Pretty awesome! Yardsales are even more hit or miss but it's worth it when you find a great haul like those PS3 games we got. Plus you might find other things you need lol

That's probably it. I assume there must be some doodad to collect. What 3D platformer of that era didn't have something shiny that needed finding? I can't imagine the game is too long otherwise, since I was able to finish the third one over a weekend.

Episode 15: Balance and Ruin

Balance and Ruin is so good! I did several blogs about it—here, here, and here. Picking just a few would be hard but I like your selections. I love the silly swing of Gobble, Snarf, Snap and The Impresario blows me away every time I hear it.

One of the things I really like is that I don't have to micromanage my party. Sure, I try to stay on top of fusing my demons so that their levels stay up and they always have skills to learn, but it's really nice not having to worry about equipping armor and weapons for them. I've never been one much for micromanaging. And I haven't had an unexpected party wipe yet...which means that I have to sit through that whole thing before Charon offers to revive you every time. Ugh, so annoying. But that's a small complaint.

contemplating a 2DS...

I think that sounds like a pretty sweet idea, though that's still quite the present. I think the 2DS would definitely be up to the beating any kid would give it. Also, Link's Awakening is great Smile

Retro Game of the Week: Bomberman 64

Bomberman 64. Man, such good times. I'm surprised Hudson was able to pull off such a good game in 3D right off the bat but I'm glad they did. Probably worked so well because they kept things simple. That definitely worked in their favor. Judging from those pictures, looks like the graphics hold up surprising well too. I never did beat The Second Attack (that game was hard!) but I played every bit of Bomberman 64.

2DS another gimmick from Nintendo to release you from your money.

My wife is interested in getting one. She doesn't care for the 3D (heck, I rarely use it) and with a one-year-old son, the sturdier design might come in handy. Plus the price is much easier to swallow. It does have a better placement of the D-pad, I'll give it that, but I'm very happy with my XL.
