I have to lvl 20 chars on two diff servers, and I've had fun playing, when I can get in. The game makes it really easy to level, so this is prolonging my experience with the game.

If I had the money I'd go for an XL. I received 3DS small as a present and I felt bad upgrading because it was a gift. It's on my desk at all times so I'm always playing something on it. If you've never had a DS, then you should look into DS games as well as 3DS is backwards compatible. The Nintedo eShop has a lot of nice games too. I would say my games to get are:
Mario 3DLand
Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Fire Emblem
I'm also anticipating Pokemon X/Y this holiday.
Have you gotten through any dungeons yet or recieved your first mount? When you start using a bit of strategy during boss fights, and using team work you'll enjoy it a lot more, even the ups and downs of playing with inexperienced players. There is one training boss that you arent supposed to kill, yet everyone takes it out quickly and just yelling NOOOOOOO in chat. When you get your first minion or mount you will feel like a real adventurer riding around Eorzea on your high horse. It gets better.
Well I have a toon on Balmung and Carbuncle (JPN) to like lvl 20. I'm pretty active.
Since Coeurl is NA, does it lock you out a lot? What is your play schedule. I'll consider if you help me party up and level up faster. Is a cat toon a requirement?
There is also the issue of "camping". Players are logging in early in the morning and staying logged in all day and not even playing because they don't want to be locked out. I've seen tons of people doing this in my games, which is frustrating because SE admitted that they have no way of dealing with this and is not a priority right now. Alot of people get kicked out of the game their actually playing because the world is full. So yeah, launch.
Most players are playing free right now for the first 30-days at least. I think even without problems, players are expected to drop out after the first month anyway, as is the case with most MMO launches, most of the population drops off after the first free period. SE probably felt that the pop would drop off after subs hit, thus the lack of servers. I would probably wait a month for the first month free trial players drop off, and everything is normal. I'm not apoligizing for the company. I think they made a terrific game and I'm jumping back and forth between JPN and NA servers if their full. Plus, I have life and stuff, so I only play late at night an thus far have a couple of awesome characters and met cool players because these problems made us bond together. The irony.
Can't wait for Sept. Also, SE is adding more servers soon, so maybe that will help or pissed off players will abandon ship and never return? Who knows? I will go down with the ship!
Peace Walker is a real slow burn. It was designed to be played coop, especially bosses. It was a challenging game from what I can remember, but I accepted the challenge because I figured I couldnt play with a group.
Also Diablo 3 is the same way with locked difficulties. You have to finish it on normal mode, which is super easy before unlocking Nightmare and others, so a second and third play through is forced upon players for finding better loot and challenge. I still play it though.
Your anger is understood.
The unfortunate thing about FFXIV, is that SE and the ARR producer have been very candid and responsive to the community in dealing with issues, posting updates and info about all the issues during all the beta phases. Even though there were issues, SE would inform the public about what was going on. MMO launches have almost always gone bad, so there was a feeling that the same would happen here. However, after the Early Access weekend and luanch lockouts SE went dark and put up very vague updates about issues. It could be that they really didn't know what the issues were so they couldn't update, but the lock outs were done on purpose while SE tested the game while players were live on the servers, a bit of a beta test situation. Anyhow, the game itself is fun and cool and the issues with the game right now are due to inability to access the game as opposed to the game is broken or something.
I need to get into Borderlands 2 for real!
The collector in me says I must have this just because.
