Special:E3 2014:The Epilogue:For Real

Posted on 06/14/2014 at 05:51 AM | Filed Under Feature

I'll give a listen to this when I have free time. I think the future is just full of the same numbered sequels with dark themes, except for Nintendo, which is why I think Nintendo won this year IMO. Microsoft dug themselves into a hole last year, so they couldnt do worse. Sony was the same as last year, except with more services and electronic equipment added. Nintendo had a fun colorful palette of games and Japanese wierdness that I like in my gaming choices. I guess Batman is exciting. I guess? Dat No Mans Sky though!Surprised

Update: Ok. Great podcast. It's true that gamers are informed about games before release so there isn't much surprises to show. Overall, I thought that Nintendo Tree House was great and showed off their gameplay really well as opposed to just trailers like everyone else.

Square Enix deserves accolades when they do things right by their fans like Microsoft has done. Now that the 13 series is in the past, and SE has put out some lovely games, we should start praising them again. Here's hoping the game turns out great, and isn't some cheap port crapped out by some undisclosed third party company as some rumors have hinted at.

Had there been gameplay or a trailer, I think there would have been more buzz about it, but I think it was just slightly mentioned on PS blog or something like that. It would have been noticed more had it been attached to a Kingdom Hearts trailer maybe. But yeat, excited!

Of all the Final Fantasy games, I think this one really fell off the radar in general and maybe there was never really that much intererest in it to begin with, but I'm glad we are getting a glorious HD version now.

Nintendo wins E3. For me at least.

Well Nintendo couldnt do any worse from where they were last year, but they did much better than PS4 and Xbox IMO. Nintendo just showed more exclusives that you cant get any where else. MS has another Halo next year? Sunset Overdrive? Fable? Forza? Sony has Little Big Planet 3 and Uncharted? Okay the Dark Souls like game is great, but...what? Indies?
Nintendo always gets bashed fore making more of the same: Donkey Kong, another Mario, another Smash, another Mario Kart etc, but Sony and MS are doing the same here. I'll just wait until Fri to tally my score card, but Nintendo won for me. That's where I'll spend more of my money.

Late to the Party: eSports & Open World games

You said what I was trying to say in my post. LOL. I actually really enjoyed Dead island. It also had an open level structure with cars and things, but I think because of the zombies chasing me i felt like I had to get in and out of areas quickly, or atleast prepare for each outing, so I really enjoyed this game design, as opposed to large empty space where you just walk. "Open World" is a catch-all term so it isn't fair to compare to Skyrim or Fallout, but I felt like more was at stake. Xenoblade had awful sidequests, but I wanted to push further to see more of the world because it was so interesting, along with dynamic weather and day/night cycles. I'm warming up to these games. Just baby steps. Maybe I will eventually get to Fallout and Skyrim, but I was eyeing Farcry 3 for now. Just waiting on the Steam Summer Sales!

My main problem with Open World is not enough time to explore all the things. Open World is not necessarily bad, but I dont think that every open world game utilizes its massive space creativly as a dev with a limited space for example. I also don't always need arrows directing me exactly where I need to go all the time, more of a time issue.

I have fighting games like Marvel V Capcom, Super Street Fighter IV, Mortal Kombat, but I never play them. Smash Bros was fun to watch. I guess it depends on the game you are watching. I don't think I would watch other fighting games. Smash Bros is just a crazy game to watch, so much going on.
