Wrongful Snake: The Problem With Yet Another Metal Gear Prequel

Posted on 04/28/2013 at 02:30 PM | Filed Under Feature

I can see what you're saying, but I don't think a double standard is taking place where people are more okay with MGS prequels than ones for both GoW's. With Gears, they gave us Baird to play as, someone who no one liked. At least MGS2 had its reasons for giving Raiden, Gears is all about feeling badass, something which Baird could not do like Marcus Fenix. Meanwhile God of War went from killing every God on Olympus to just fighting some weird sisters that felt a lot like weaker versions of GoW2's villains. MGS3 meanwhile is the fan favorite game despite not having Solid Snake. People are just going to accept it easier.

Truth be told though, I'm not sure if a new MGS is the right direction for Kojima period. I think he should move onto another series, keep MGS gameplay, but give a new world, new characters, even a new message. Nuclear war, a power elite, and what being a hero truly means. Good messages, but there's more of them out there and more ways to approach these ones in particular. I'll still play MGS5, but I have a hard time seeing a future where I do not consider 3 as where the series peaked.

Current Gen Wanted on Next Gen

I'm not sure if Dragon Age 3 really will be on them with how it will have transferring save files. We'll see though. I think Battlefield 4 was already confirmed for next gen though along with Destiny (fuck yeah) and Watchdogs. MGS5 I think has been confirmed as next gen also which next to a new Fallout on them (good call) would be the best reason for me to pick up a next gen console. I'd also want to see a Mass Effect on the next gen, maybe just canonize one of the endings since next gen won't have backward compatibility and go a thousand years in the future.

Cary's Top Five Favorite DC Comics Characters!

Is it scary? Or is it because we both have amazing taste that recognizes how amazing Joker, Rorscach, and Scarecrow are?

You should check out Justice League if you're having trouble. It's an awesome cartoon that introduces a ton of DC characters. I don't blame you for not being able to pick five though, DC does a terrible job of making anything outside of Batman relevant nowadays. My list would be

1. The Joker

2. Rorscach (Watchmen)

3. Batman

4. John Stewart (Green Lantern, always liked him more than Hal Jordan)

5. Scarecrow

A rant about RaiderZ and Capcom

Capcom's like a Japanese EA. Especially in regard to DLC. I also won't waste my time on RaiderZ because I didn't even know it existed until now.

I think I want one of these.

Wait for the Retron 5. It'll play imported games and GBA games as well with an HDMI output. It's supposed to come out this summer.

Why 3D Makes Better 3DS Games

I hope we can still get games like Ninja Gaiden DS, just that it means they only do touch screen focused games if they really want it. I was actually kind of disappointed at first too because it hurt the chances for Elite Beat Agents 2. Wish we could have the best of both worlds. But I suppose 3DS isn't about that, that's why we have the Circle Pad Pro.

Well that's what I'm saying though,  the nature of the 3DS is what is keeping them from putting these in, not them not feeling the need to put them in. Hence why they're still going crazy with things like the Vita. I think if it weren't for the 3D they'd be going crazier with the gyroscope.

That's another good point- not all people can see 3D so it discourages the feature from being a huge focus of a 3DS game. It's the perfect system for controlling gimmicks.

It's not that at all. Developers are still shoehorning things in all the time, hence the Vita and Wii U. It's that the 3D in the 3DS creates a system that discourages using its other features unless they actually make the game better and in turn actually is one hundred percent optional.
