I'd have to wait for a releas on PS4 since my PC is still dead at the moment. Are there any other games out there like it? I do miss playing generic RPGs on PC though.

Well, I already responded to your game stagnation blog with my appreciation for Lightning Returns, so I'll just repost it here. I also blamed fans for ruining good things, not just the developers for taking chances. To reiterate, I know that people hate this game but I enjoy the game anyway, mainly because I like the challenge of the time limit and customization of gear, weapons, magic.
" Sometimes fans are also the problem. I’ve been playing Lightning Returns again recently and it is honestly one of my favorite games. It’s probably one of the strangest takes and less reminiscent of a traditional FF game (whatever that means), but I still think it stands pretty well on it’s own. Looking back through all the final fantasy games, there is a lot of grinding involved before making progress. This was a trend in the 90s that hasn’t really changed with JRPGs, except with Lightning Returns.
In LR you don’t really need to grind endlessly to level up to progress, you just need to equip costumes and magic which you find exploring the 4 main regions of the game which you can also visit very early on in the game. You can break up the order of main story quests instead of following a straight story line campaign tube. Your combat actions are customizable and you can get very creative with swapping out combinations of weapons, magic, attacks, etc. The biggest grievance against the game is the ‘time limit’ mechanic. People mostly hate it. I for one enjoy the challenge some games offer that have a time limit. Games like Majora’s Mask, Dead Rising, and Monster Hunter. I think because of the backlash to the game, we’ll never see anything introduced in it in other games again, which is a shame. LR was a really fresh take on JRPGs that audiences mostly rejected, and thus the genre is still stuck on endless grinding. "
It seems, according the IGN review, that the story is worth the playthrough. It reminds me of something like Deadly Premonotion and Alpha Protocol, where the game mechanics might not be perfect, but everything else is worth the time. It looks really good. I was noticing in the comments of the review that the player wasn't playing the game right. That he was taking on enemies too powerful too soon, like an mmo and was spamming attacks and didn't understand the nuances of the mechanics? Two hours to kill one enemy? That doesn't sound like a bug, maybe poorly informing the player. Will wait for a discount for sure.
It is definitly Valkyrie Profile 3, or at least a reimagining of Valkyrie Profile 1, which is why I loved it so much! ^_^
Yeah, LR is as close to real-time combat while still retaining semi turn-based combat system of 13-1 and 13-2. It's fast, fluid and more engaging than the previous 2 games, in my opinion. The time limit also encourages me to approach the game more like a boss rush mode like in souls games-- just cut right through to each boss as quickly as possible--like a souls game. I do also like to lore and myths of 13 and the idea of killing god.
No, I haven't played Elex. I'm glad you brought it up because after looking it up, I really want to play it now. I really liked Two Worlds 2, even though it was a bit generic and janky, I still enjoyed the hell out of it. I miss third-tier games. What happened to them? It's all early access at full price now I guess? Curious about your impressions. IGN really trashed it in the video review I just watched, but the comments are countering he isn't playing the game right? Interesting, at $60 I might have to wait on a sale.

You can approach LR like a boss rush once you're familiar with the games combat mechanics and know where to find all the right weapons, magic, etc. Not to mention you have an ability to slow down the world clock temporarily and add time by doing sidequests.
Tell your friend to fuck well off! It's none of his damned business what you do on your spare time at all! He reminds me of a friend who really hates video games and gamers, and to a certain extent I hate a lot of gamers too (the evil abusive ones that harass women and journalists online when they give mario a 9 instead of 10 or whatever). Anyway, he watches A LOT of sports, full games for hours and hours nightly and goes to sporting events at least twice a month, baseball, hockey, etc. Honestly, I don't think he's getting anything healthy out of consuming all that stuff at all. He even buys a lot of expensive jerseys and collectible nonesense to decorate, yet he sees gaming as a waste of time? While I have cut back on gaming time, I still make time to read novels, comics, manga, watch tv, film, anime, and also go to the gym, go out and socialize and video games are just one part of my free time. I think that if you completely cut yourself off from reality, like those idiot parents who let their baby die because they were too busy playing WOW, then it is a problem, but I've seen abusive parents yell at their kids and couples fight when they interrupt their dumb sports thing. Come to think of it, I hate sports fans too. Drunken loud idiots. I do watch sports things from time to time, and get quite into them, but not a whole lot.
I personally don't really discuss gaming to anyone in public. I see it as my nerd thing that I do as a hobby like manga, anime, and reading. Yes, I really love horror and violent type books/movies/games/music and discussing this in public might make people think you're a psycho, so my nerd things are MY nerd things. I will play video games until the day I die!!!! I also think video games still have a negative conotation associated with them unlike sports which is more acceptable hobby for grown men to have. I also watch a lot cartoon and teen dramas and superhero shows and love them and will never stop watching them either!!! EVER!!!
I only remember a pinball game in FFXV that they do talk about. I don't remember Kings Knight. Are you going to review that new episodic 15 game on mobile. It's like chibi baby style ffxv on mobile coming soon. I didn't think the story was so great in xv, so stuff focusing on it doesn't really interest me.
ah. okay. Good I can buy it seperate. I'll just wait for reviews then.
For me, it's also that a lot of those MP shooters get so much coverage from game sites, seem to ignore anything else, like Destiny coverage for example or CoD loot crate stories-- ad nauseam.
Honestly, if it weren't for twitter and podcasts I wouldn't have cared for Prey, Dishonored 2, Wolfenstein , Persona 5, Evil Within 2, and I wouldn't have known that Nintendo is on fire again with their new console.
