I think it's the "hate-filled abominations" part that riled everyone up. First of all I sort of agree with you on the cinematics and visuals part. I'm going back and forth between Alien Isolation and Evil Within. If you aren't aware by now the Evil Within is displayed with an aspect ratio similar to a film, including black bars on top and bottom of screen (the whole game) . However, I've played a lot of it and it didn't bother me but there isn't much of a narrative or story to support the "cinematic" presentation. I like the game for the "gamey-ness" of it and the visuals are pretty great for a horror game but I feel like the "cinemascope" style was just added to call the game cinematic for the sake of calling it cinematic. They released a patch to remove black bars which is weird. Alien Isolation feels much more immersive and it doesn't have a "cinematic" aspect ratio. Hmmm.

If more articles were put up like yours on IGN I'd visit the site more often or take critics more seriously!
