Getting Started in the World of Jrpgs

Posted on 11/10/2014 at 09:51 PM | Filed Under Blogs

6 hours? Dear Lord. I could have gotten to level 90 in World of Warcraft in 6 hours. Or played 5 Indie games for an hour at a time? Kidding aside, one of the things I meant to ask about JRPGs or SJRPGs is how you approach playing them? I can only play like an hour of any game at a time unless it is really engrossing. Vita, 3DS and PSP lets me use sleep mode so I can continue long campaigns. I'm still interested in this game though, but my backlog. Have less than a month to complete. Cue the mission impossible music.

Congrats. I feel like a mini #Gamergate brewing. Ya'll can trade favors for good reviews from me. I have no ethics. I give the game a 11 out of 10 already. Game of the Year 2015!

Was also wondering which sites you think are best for starting game devs like me. I have an idea for a game about an astronaut that turns into a little ball and drops bombs. I think I'll call it Metroid. What do you think? Have fun living the game dev dream!Cool

I was gonna do a blog aboug strategy games since I never really played them in the past. I'm playing Beyond Earth and Endless Legend. I've only ever played Tactics and Fire Emblem so I would be interested in reading a short list about the better strategy games on console, specifically SJRPGS.

I would probably suggest starting off with something more modern like Persona 4 or in it's most basic form the most current Pokemon. JRPGs have pretty much disappeared from the main stream and fallen off the radar for most console gamers and pushed into a niche genre. I'd suggest the more current remakes for Final Fantasy 4 and X or even somehthing like Bravely Defalut on 3DS. Old schoo JRPGs are great but I think they'd be hard to start off with.

Umm no. Not charismatic. They seemed more comfortable speaking probably from experience, but I like what you were saying about Sony and Nintendo. Their defense of MS was all about Phil Spensor or something, I was like shut em down cow. Oh, and that IGN article 400 comments was no fluke. Your voice needs to be heard. Too bad the podcast fell through. I'd totally do a podcast if I knew how, don't care if I have a sucky voice or not. Cool

I listened to the podcast. Your voice is fine. I got used to it after a few minutes. I would have liked to have heard more about your take on the IGN trolls. I also would have liked to have heard more about Warcraft and some of your Indie games. Basically more whatsacow, less everything else. If you did a podcast where you ran the topics I'd listen. I personally like Nintendo and Sony, PC and Microsoft last.

Sometimes Waiting is Better then Impulsive Buying

Yeah. This is what I'm saying. If we paid full price for weird ass games, then they'd make a profit and make more. I think there was an XBOXOne game recentley that was made by the Deadly Premonition creator and it bombed. I think it was a DLC game for like 12 dollars or something so this guy probably won't make more games anytime soon. D4 I think it's called.

I wasn't judging you at all. I've done the same thing. I buy PS2 and PSOne games on ebay all the time. I'm just saying when we want rare games that don't make it over here, it's because we won't buy them new. I normally don't run out and buy new games on day one anymore mostly due to backlog and time. Bayonetta is an example. It didn't sell very well, so there probably won't be a sequel or more games like it. Same as DMC. The Evil Within was a great game, but I feel like if I don't support it, it tells devs not to make them anymore. When I do get a budget for this Tiara game, it will probably be year 2030 for 1,000 dollars on ebay.

I feel really wierd about this sort of thing because I kind of feel like Japanese devs refuse to localize their kwerky games because gamers won't buy them. SJRPGs are a real niche genre that is custom made for gamers like you and since you bought it used instead of full price it deters from selling these kind of games in the future. So I try to pay full price or get special editions of Atlus games when they launch to get them to keep localizing. Not all Atlus games, but the ones I'm interested in like Etrian series.

Otherwise, I'm glad you were able to save money and get your game with extras. But I had to get it off my chest. Sometimes I don't have the budget for newest bestest games and I've been in your position, who hasn't amirite? I really wanted to try this game out myself.

One time I got a Batman Arkham box set on sale and it had a batarang and leather booklet which was rad, so I know how you feel. But Batman is a AAA game, but I digress.

What are MUST play indie games so far? I want to know.

Broken Age looks really good. I played it. It's got Elijah Wood and it's really old schoo in gameplay.
