My Mii Plaza (BaDay 04)

Posted on 02/06/2015 at 01:44 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I don't understand what makes for a new breed. I mean, I get the percentage points and everything but the guy says that seeds with three possibilities are better. But if I get a glowing one, it has one possibility with a high percentage of being a new breed. And what about using the seed shapes to tell what will grow. I don't get that at all. I picked up a job at the store in the mall, but I don't know how to select for a specific breed. Maybe I'll figure it out eventually.

The 3DS tells you exactly when you make a Street Pass, so I try and guess who was around when I got it. I've figured on one person for sure, but the rest are still a mystery to me even though I get the same Mii at the same time most days. Who's the secret Nintendo fan, I think.

Cubicles suck. I'll never work in one. Don't care how much I could make.

A friend of mine showed me a Henry Miller quote once where he described the New York City skyline. The buildings were tombs and the people were like the living dead. Your words, "a tomb for the mind and soul" made me think of that. I wish I could find the quote. It must be in his book Tropic of Cancer.

Crysis 2 and 3 were just on sale on Xbox Live the other weekend. I got the first game on a sale a while back but haven't played it yet. I almost got 2 and 3 though, but I want to play 1 first and see how I like it. 2 and 3 were cheap though. I should've just got them.

I Can't Diablieve It (BaDay 03)

Oh cool! I can't wait to play UEE. I have a Puzzle Ring item which, when I get hit, sometimes spawns a Treasure Goblin (I call it a Gnome because I like that better. Lawn Gnome, Treasure Gnome. Just has a ring to it). It happens quite a lot really, and I always yell out to my co-op friend when it appears so we can kill it, "Forget that boss, GET THE GNOME!!!"

Me too, "passive media" is just how I describe it. I gotta interact with it. But I did watch some RWBY once. It was cool.

BaD #3: Metroid Prime WiiU is Glorious!

Ug, no classic controller support. I don't like the wiimote and nunchuck much. But, when I get a Wii-U, it'll be a no brainer to pick up the trilogy, on sale or not.

I'll check it out when I get a Wii-U then.

What pulls me into a game is graphics and design. I'm an artist at heart, so what seems interesting to me visually is what goes first. So now I've bought the game. What keeps me playing that game is mechanics. If the controls are bad, I'm out. I don't care about anything in it after that. Case in point. Epic Mickey. Loved the art design of that game so much, I got it day-one. The camera was epically bad and so I traded it in. Then I got it again years later just so I could look at it. I'll do the same with Ni No Kuni no doubt.

Oh yea, story. I really like story in games and spend time following it carefully. I admire writers on games too and have a list of favorites I follow. But if the gameplay doesn't feel right to me, I'm out. Case in point. I love writer Antony Johnston but I don't like the controls in Dead Space. I will not suffer through it for the story.

So it's Design, Mechanics, then Story for me; although, if I was developing a game, I would start with the game engine, then get an artist, and then a writer. Mechanics are the most important part of a video game, despite what my artist mind desires.
