Quick Hits: First Blog of 2014!

Adam and Drew what now? It's like I learn a new awesome thing every time I comment you. lol

And I might see if I like some India Arie, myself. She seems like a cool lady. A quick Bing search yielded some decent clips.

I rented Rogue Squadron II a couple times, and it was fun and looked great for its time. I need a new Gamecube controller, though, actually. Dammit, I just bought a TV.

I love horns in music in general. Ska is one of my favorite genres because of horn instruments.

And thanks, man. Now I gotta get back on the wagon, though. I'm still skinny, but I lost a lot of strength from being sick recently, and have definitely taken a few liberties with my diet this break. lol Have fun on your walks, they can really be therapeutic, I find.

Yeah, you have a few games to get off Mount Backlog, I just built Mt. Gaming Everest with a gift card. lol

I honestly can not recall the title ... I think KnightDriver tipped me off to it, though. At least, I think it was him.

And do you mean the 1980s SHMUP Defender that Google gives me when I type in "defender genre video game"? Or is defender a genre of video game like I thought initially?

Random thoughts compiled into an update of sorts...

I found it pretty easy to follow, actually. I think Killzone: Shadows Fall looks gorgeous, too. It's the one ad I don't mind blip showing me over and over again.

Ryu looks like an angry humanoid-Pokemon hybrid.

The Wolf of Wall Street and 13 Films From 2013

I liked 3 a lot better than 2 as well, don't get me wrong. 3 had a lot going for it, it's just that my bias against Super Soldier Serum baddies is almost as strong as my one against zombies. Plus, I was kind of hoping that twist wasn't going to be the direction everything went in, though I did find it funny and admire Shane Black's balls. I admire them a lot. In my house ...

I haven't rewatched Into Darkness yet, but that was definitely a great flick, in my opinion. I'm not sure I care how much sense it does or doesn't make when scrutinized.

I'm not that surprised so many people liked MoS, it had some pretty good action and I guess people liked the plot and characters. I just thought the scenes with Pa Kent especially made no damn sense, and it was a bit of a mess with the editing and camera work and dark visuals I think should remain a Batman thing. Make Superman a symbol and have him face brutality and darkness, but I don't think you need to have the same "dark" look every other Hollywood film has now to do it. I thought its look was really uninspired, and the characters didn't make any sense at times. Apparently, there are plot holes, but I honestly gave up and just watched the action scenes when they came up, which in my opinion were actually a pretty strong part of the movie, along with Michael Shannon as Zod.

The guns thing didn't bother me. All the people who seemed to have them were connected with the rich guy, weren't they? There's definitely possibilities that open up to you with wealth, largely regardless of what country you're in. I also felt it was mostly just ok, but any lapse in realism really isn't a problem for me in these kinds of movies, so I just enjoyed the amazing Japan shots while I wasn't yawning at the slower pace of some scenes or being genuinely captivated by others.

I think you can argue just about any Tolkien work, including by extension the film interpretations by Jackson, are overlong and contain unnecessary scenes. I however, thought this movie was actually paced incredibly well, and beat every other movie in this entire series in the pacing department by a New Zealand landscape mile. Oddly enough, I actually thought Smaug's monologuing was the one thing that may have been on just a bit too long.

My laptop has an IceCool feature, specifically to keep my palms nice and cool, I will have you know, sir.

So Gone Home is a simulator for the experience of losing the TV remote inside your mansion? Well, I guess that's a nice issue to have.

Is Resogun a SHMUP? I never heard of it.

Super Hexagon looks like an older 70s game someone on Pixlbit had me play online. In fact, that's what I thought your avatar was from.

I don't actively avoid you by any means, but I've never heard of any of these games except EOIV, so I'm glad you enlightened me.

December 2013 Recap

Just so we're clear on a couple things: I think you probably realized this, but no KZ game ever actually starred a Little Person. It's just that one of them has a line of first-person vision that is at all the other characters' waist lines, which was a development error, I believe.

Secondly, I no can haz more games, cuz I broke and wanting a new TV. lol That does sound like a lot of hoops to jump through for one free game, though.

Quick Hits: First Blog of 2014!

As a matter of fact, I think this is the first year I will remember to write the proper year pretty much immediately, because of how relieved and excited I am that the prior one is finished. lol

I don't listen to gaming podcasts too often. Only one I have listened to recently is Super Toolshed, but it's not really a gaming podcast per se, they just talk about video games sometimes, along with anime and other media, because the duo on the podcast is a TGWTG reviewer, Bennet The Sage, and his partner. There was a podcast on tgwtg.com that I listened to a while back that was dedicated to gaming, but I've forgotten what it is/was called.

When I do listen to podcasts, it's usually the Schmoes Know (Youtube movie reviewers) podcast on toadhopnetwork.com; that website may have a gaming podcast, I don't know. I've also listened to this one with porn stars talking about their jobs, Sex Squad, which was surprisingly pretty dull, and there's one called Vox Populi that features Sean Astin doing mostly political analysis I think. That last one sounds like an NPR program, in my opinion. I used to listen to the Adam Carolla podcast as well, but I haven't in a while. I really wish Loveline were still on the air with the Ace Man and Dr. Drew bouncing off each other, I loved listening to that in middle school when it came on 97.1 The Eagle late at night. I never owned my own TV, and we never had cable when I was growing up, but my little Magnavox boombox still managed to let me hear things I really shouldn't have. Laughing I actually first heard Schmoes Know when they appeared as guests on some earlier Carolla podcasts, so I guess it all comes full circle.

Looks like you had the same reaction to Google Play music sales as I did to Steam's Winter Sale. lol A lot of stuff for roughly the price of one thing. Sorry to hear about IV Play, though. Is it the type of R&B that heavily features chimes? I've always found R&B usage of that instrument incredibly corny and overdone. At least the title's a bit clever.

I need to start using Audible. I found a bunch of audiobook segments on Spotify's "discover" section in their 2013 recap I may want to listen to as well. Speaking of which, I thought that recap they did was really cool. If you search Google for "music in 2013," it should be a top result. Never heard of Haven, but I'm currently reading Mockingjay. It's still shaping up to possibly be my favorite of the trilogy. Hopefully, I can finish it today.

The only artist I recognize on your Smart Playlist is The Band Perry, and I don't recognize most of those songs. lol At least, as far as what the screen cap shows. I'd probably know some other ones you liked. What was the album you began liking?

I bought a similar pack of styluses and screen protectors for my DS long ago, or maybe it was a gift, I forget. That's a nice looking case, though. Also, holy crap, there's a Guilty Gear game on DS?! Why don't I own a copy?! And $2?! I need to get out to the local Gamestop when I go shopping for my TV!

Arc Squadron looks cool. That name reminds me of what a big deal Rogue Squadron II was when GCN first released. Memories.

I love Chicago, but aside from maybe the green ... devil-horned dog ... whatever that song was Judas Priest covered, I don't get a lot of Fleetwood Mac in my music diet. According to Spotify, London listens to them 166% or something like that more than anywhere else in the world. The Supremes are great, too.

Thanks for reminding me to exercise! Have a good walk, that's how I lost over 60 pounds since last year, just by walking 3 miles every day and keeping my calorie count to what my Noom app said it should be.

Hmmm

CPMs pay a pittance my ass, where did you get the money to send us all to Rome? Drug deals? Then you better hope asrealasitgets wasn't right, because I hear Jesus flips his shit (and tables) over stuff like that.
