Back in the day—the early '90s—Nintendo Power ran some comics for Super Mario World and A Link to the Past. As far as I know the Mario comic is still lost to time but the Zelda one got a nice trade paperback release last year and I recently finished reading it. Man, did that take me back! The storyline is a very loose adaptation of the SNES game, which most of the time is for the best, I think. The art is very expressive, though surprisingly not very "anime," if you know what I mean, and is laid out left-to-right since it was intended for a Western magazine. It holds up quite well! It's just a fun, breezy adventure. What surprised me most was how humorous it was and the humor was very anime, er, manga I should say, since the author was a famous old manga artist (Sotaro Ishinomori) at the end of his career.

Let me say up front that I didn't follow the Game Developers Conference as it went on this last week and I haven't had time to extensively look at what was there, but I did read about some cool stuff on USGamer. Most exciting for me was the big reveal of details on the third and final Zero Escape game. Now subtitled Zero Time Dilemma, looks like it's moving away from a straight visual novel with puzzles to something more akin to the Telltale style of adventure game, but without sacrificing the narrative focus of the series. It looks good! Most surprising, though, was that it's coming out June 28! The first game in the series, 999, was my favorite game I played last year but I haven't played the second game, Virtue's Last Reward, yet. I gotta get on that!

I never occurred to me that today—Leap Day—was a weekday till my wife mentioned it yesterday and asked what I'd blog about. I had no plans! So here I am, tired of bluffing through my last few blogs, too tired to put in the work for a proper one
