RAW: Realms of Ancient War, a game I think I got for free with Games with Gold. It came out in 2012 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. I don't know how I missed this one, since I love the hack-n-slash genre. I got deep into it and so did my gaming buddy. Take a look.
Howlongtobeat.com says 7 1/2 hours and I guess that's about right. I must confess I stopped close to the end after getting really bored with fighting off the continual mass rush of enemies. It was sometimes unfair, but if you dash quickly and use all your abilites, you can manage it.
It's basically very much like a Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance, Diablo III or Torchlight. You have three characters to choose from with different abilities. I chose the magic using character and, as usual, my gaming buddy chose the axe swinging barbarian (I contemplated co-op but it was not an active part of the game anymore). You pick up loot and incrementally improve your armor and weapons over time. My favorite part was being able to possess giant monsters for a time and use them against the smaller enemies.
I found the game mostly pretty fun, but it did fatigue me after a while. It's just not that rewarding to pick up a piece of equipment that is just a tiny bit better than what you have. Also, being rushed by hoards of enemies all the time gets a bit old. But, I could go back to it and finish off those last few areas sometime.
Wizarbox was the French developer. RAW was their last game before going bankrupt. They did mostly ports of PC games to console, casual stuff and a few point-and-click adventure games. RAW was, I guess, their first action game and their last as well.
