I'm not going to go into any great detail here but I'm loving these two games.
I made the statement after the demo that I didn't think it was much like an Etrian Odyssey game. I was wrong. The EO feel comes largely from the team structure and the way you level up abilities. Quests abound and you get to expand the inventory in the stores by killing enough dragons to pay for upgrades to the facilities.
However unlike EO you get to move around environments freely and your dungeon crawls are 3rd person not first.
As Snee has pointed out the music is not the greatest but I did come across one moving piece in a hospital scene that I kind of liked.
I am Setsuna is beautiful and quite sad. The music is mostly made up of piano pieces and they are quite pretty. I know I've stopped playing multiple times and just sat and listened.
While the whole game is bound in snow it's quite nice to look at. The voice acting is all in Japanese but that has yet to bother me.
The battle system is turn based but fast and puts one in mind of Chrono Trigger. Boss battles start of nicely but out of the blue the difficulty peaks and you will die. Strategy and the right set of skills are key in many boss battles.
The game also has characters you can give a fuck about which I find is rare these days.
Is it worth 40 bucks? I was going to wait for a drop but beer convinced me otherwise and I do not regret the purchase. If you like old 16 bit JRPGs and are not afraid of the odd hard boss battle you should buy it. If for no other reason than to support this kind of game
Anyway that's my 2 cents for now. More later.
